Two things that attracted me to Zen practice were the enlightenment stories and the death stories of the masters.

These relatively recent photos are of Zen Master Hui Neng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen. When he was ready to die, he sat in full lotus for three days without moving. His head disciple came into his room periodically and held a mirror under his nose to see if there was still breath coming and going out of his nostrils. When there was no longer any breath, his monks unrobed and lacquered his body, which continues to sit in full lotus posture to this day, 1300 years later!
